Origins Skincare Review

A quick little post before the weekend arrives to share with you some products I have been trying out that I’m currently loving. I have never tried any products from the Origins brand before, but as I am doing my best to keep up with a skincare regime that is as natural as possible, I decided it was about time I gave this highly sought after brand a review. The products I have are one’s tailored to my skin needs: Origins Modern Friction Dermabrasion, Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash, and Origins Planscriptions Anti-Aging Power Serum.

Firstly, I want to say that the Modern Friction Dermabrasion, £33 for 125ml, is my new favourite! It is one of the best exfoliators I have ever used. I like to use a dermabrasion type exfoliating wash once a week to help speed up my skin cell renewal, so that marks from breakouts and sun-damage are kept on top of, turning over quicker and revealing newer and brighter skin. This natural and gentle exfoliator also makes the texture of my skin feel super soft; I noticed my skin felt really smooth and appeared slightly clearer with more radiance after just two uses. It contains skin refining rice starch, illuminating lemon oil, and smoothing aloe, and these powerful natural ingredients work wonders to really unclog my skin. It has relaxing perk-me-up aromas of Bergamot and Peppermint, and even though it is a dermabrasion product, it feels really creamy to use. No harsh sharp particles and no redness after using. I love it, and it has now taken over my No7 Microdermabrasion exfoliator as my number 1 scrub!

The next lovely product is the Checks and Balances Facial Wash, £18.50, which aims to cleanse the skin whilst at the same time moisturising dry patches, and balancing out oily parts too. My skin is slightly combination; I have dry areas around my nose and cheeks, yet my forehead and chin can get really shiny throughout the day. This facial wash aims to target this problem,  and keep skin looking refreshed. I love using this – again it smells amazing, a real natural, holistic scent with a nice frothy texture. I always feel like my skin is ultra clean after using this. If you are looking for a gentle daily wash to moisturise, balance and protect all in one, then this should be one of your go-to products!

The third product is the Anti-aging Power Serum. Now I always find it difficult to review a product that has the aim to reduce the appearance of aging, as I am only 28 with (touch wood) very few lines appearing. However, I did noticed that with regular use of this serum, my skin began to feel more firm and ‘lifted’, as well as completely moisturised. Again, it’s texture and scent are just lovely, and this product does seem to rank fairly high in the beauty world for reducing the signs of wrinkles and aging skin. It costs £48 for 30ml, but a little really does go a long way!

What is Motosport?

MotoSport was founded by Bill Butcher in Yakima, WA in 1999. Bill sought to combine his love for Powersports with his knack for business success. His passion for motorcycles and a lack of service from local dealers led to MotoSport. Nearly two decades later, MotoSport is still growing and providing high-quality service and products to Powersports enthusiast and casual riders.

According to the MotoSport website, “When you call for help or advice you’ll actually talk to someone who owns, rides and wrenches on a dirt bike, street bike, ATV or side-by-side.”

It’s much easier to provide great support when you use your own products. First-hand experience is always better than calling a support number only to get a call center and a scripted response. Employees at MotoSport are self-proclaimed “Gearheads” which is a moniker they proudly accept in honor of their history of hands-on knowledge and fast help.

What Makes MotoSport Stand Out?

Beyond quality service, they offer a huge selection of powersports parts and accessories. Finding the parts you need is as simple as choosing from a drop-down and entering a year or model number. From there you’ll be presented with a list of product categories. A click or two later and you’ve ordered your parts.

MotoSport carries custom and OEM parts for a wide variety of manufacturers of dirt bikes, ATVs, utility ATVs, UTVs, street bikes and cruising bikes. The website is searchable and broken down into well organized, helpful categories including:

  • ATV Parts
  • OEM Parts
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Tools and Maintenance
  • Protection

If you don’t know what your part is called or maybe you’d like some advice on a repair, give them a call. They also have several useful search tools to help you fast-track your way to the correct parts for your motorcycle, ATV or UTV. Quality customer service is a priority, and they have qualified professionals on hand to advise and help.

MotoSport is more than a motorcycle parts house. They give back to their community. They match, up to $20,000 a year, every dollar their customers donate to motorsport related charities such as Rider Down. These charities help injured Powersports enthusiasts or racers.

If you’re new to motorsports, they can help you learn. There is a huge section of their website devoted to riding tips and tech tips. You’ll find videos and blog posts on everything from product reviews, they test their products, to how to ride safely or tips for beginning riders. MotoSport is truly a rare find in the world of parts and repairs.

Features like these are what make MotoSport stand out from their competition. After all, their mission statement is, “We exist to ensure Powersports enthusiasts never miss a ride.” They stand behind that statement to the point of offering free shipping on most orders over $79.

Foot Locker and its New Culture

Foot Locker, the largest U.S. specialty athletic-shoe retailer, no longer wants you to think of it as just a sneaker shop. Instead, try identifying it as a place for “youth culture empowerment.”

Changing consumer behaviors have brands of all kinds scrambling to respond, and Foot Locker is no different. The New York-based retailer is transforming itself at its fastest pace since it opened its first store in 1974.

Since January, Foot Locker has invested in four startups: kicks resale business Goat, sneaker design academy Pensole, online children’s clothing subscription service Rockets of Awesomeness, and kids’ shoe and apparel brand Super Heroic. Last year, Foot Locker also took a minority stake in women’s luxury activewear brand Carbon38.

“We’ve changed a lot,” Richard Johnson, Foot Locker president and CEO, said in an interview. “The pace of change isn’t going to slow down. The consumer moves fast. We’ve got to be agile to adapt to it. … All these things we are identifying to invest are capabilities we want to add to the ecosystem that serves youth culture. … None of them are distractions.”

A case in point: At Foot Locker’s Times Square flagship, Super Heroic and Rockets of Awesomeness are already featured in Kids Foot Locker while a design from a Pensole creator has been turned into an Adidas shoe sold exclusively at Foot Locker. Johnson said Foot Locker is in the early stage of growth with Goat.

In the company’s home market in North America, Foot Locker this year opened the region’s first “power stores” in Detroit and Philadelphia after first introducing them in cities including Liverpool and London. These stores feature exclusive products and touches tailored to local tastes. They also aim to deliver on the retail buzzword of the day: experience. Meant to be “a hub for local sneaker culture, art, music and sports,” in the company’s words, they have space to host traffic-driving community events like pop-up nail salons and Xbox gaming sessions.

12 Secret Tips for Saving Money at Best Buy

One of the most popular shopping destinations for home electronics and entertainment is Best Buy.  You can find just about anything you need from laptops to gaming systems, televisions, appliances and every accessory you can imagine!  Of course, these items are some of the most pricey, which can mean that you may not always get the best price you want.

If you shop at Best Buy very often, you know that finding coupons are pretty rare.  In fact, the only way most people believe that they can save is shop sales. But, knowing some simple ways to save money when shopping at Best Buy can come in handy.

Saving Money at Best Buy - Shopping tricks, tips and hacks

Although rare, they do pop up from time to time.  In fact, it is has been a few years since we’ve seen one that you can print and use in the store.  What may work best when shopping at Best Buy is to see if there is a free shipping code or other online discounts.  That is the best you will do when it comes to tracking down a coupon.

You can also shop the Best Buy Outlet (both online) where you can find some deep discounts.  You might even try the Best Buy eBay store where they offer some of their same discounts as on their website (even if the regular site shows that it is out of stock).

Saving Money at Best Buy - Shopping tricks, tips and hacks

Black Friday (and now, actually Black Week through Cyber Monday) is when you will find the best deals of the year.  The reason that we don’t see them very often is that electronics manufacturers rarely allow retailers to discount products below a set price.  What Best Buy will do is add a gift card with purchase.

Did you know that Best Buy will price match online retailers?  They will match the following stores:  Amazon, BHPhotovideo, Crutchfield, Dell, HP, NewEgg and TigerDirect.  When you are in the store, just do a quick search to see if the item you need is priced lower online and they will match it.

A few things to keep in mind when price matching at Best Buy:

  • It must be the exact item (search by SKU to make sure), and they will only do one price match per customer.
  • They also suspend price matching during Black Week and Cyber Monday, so you will need to check with your store to know the policy before you try to match.

One other little-known secret is that sometimes, Best Buy will retroactively price match.  That means if you purchase an item and the price drops during the eligible return period (see below), they will refund you the difference!  Take your receipt to show verification of your purchase.

Saving Money at Best Buy - Shopping tricks, tips and hacks

Best Buy offers the My Best Buy Rewards Program.  It is entirely free to join, and you earn rewards points on every purchase made.  When you accrue 250 points, you will receive a $5 reward certificate (or gift card) which you can redeem on anything at Best Buy.

Best Buy Cardholders get even more from this program! You will earn 5% back in rewards when you shop using your card.  There are also exclusive invitations extended only to cardholders which will get you early access to sales and events.

If you are a frequent Best Buy Shopper and happen to spend anywhere from $1500 – $3500 in annual purchases, you will get an upgrade to the Elite or ElitePlus membership.  Elite members enjoy additional perks such as free expedited shopping, extended return policies, and increased rewards points.

Gamers will also want to make sure they sign up for the My Best Buy Gamers Club to get even more benefits including double points on new video games, accessories and digital content.  A 2 year paid membership scores even additional perks such as 20% off of new video games, 10% off of pre-owned games and even a 10% bonus trade-in credit.

Know the return policy.  Best Buy will allow most items to be returned within 15 days for a full refund, even if you have opened it.  Make sure you have your receipt, ID and all of the packaging and contents.  There are, of course, a few exceptions to this policy:

  • My Best Buy Elite and Elite Plus members receive an extended return and exchange period of up to 45 days.
  • Cell phones and other devices sold with a carrier contract may be returned within 14 days.
  • Holiday returns included an extended return period.  Purchases made between November 1 – December 31 have an extended return period through January 15 of the following year.
  • Opened software, movies, music and video games can only be exchanged for an identical item.
  • Special Order items will be refunded at 85% of the original purchase price.
  • Custom orders are non-returnable.
  • Bundled items or promotional discount items can be returned individually. Best Buy will refund you only what has been returned, less the discount or freebie amount.
  • If you’re missing items or packaging, you can still return for a small deduction on your refund.
  • Other non-refundable purchases include digital content, prepaid cards, memberships, completed services, and items that are damaged or missing major components.

Saving Money at Best Buy - Shopping tricks, tips and hacks

To get a game deal, watch for bundle offers. They often toss in multiple games and sometimes, even accessories.  If you price them out individually, you will pay more than if you purchase it in a bundle.

The simples Best Buy hack is to shop with discounted gift cards. When you purchase a gift card at a discount, that is instant savings – right in your pocket!

Sites such as Gift Card Granny sell discounted Best Buy gift cards.  For example, you may find a $100 gift card for $95.  That is $5 instant savings!!!

Saving Money at Best Buy - Shopping tricks, tips and hacks

If you want to find the best pricing on HDTVs, Best Buy is most often the place to go.  They usually will meet or beat competing sites, which gets you the best possible price for the television you want.

When you find a hot deal online, you can get the item the same day. Not only that, you can avoid paying shipping charges as well, which is an added perk.

You can learn a lot about the discount, just by reading the price tag.

Price ends in .92:  One-time drop that is at or below Best Buy’s cost.  A deal to grab.
Price ends in .96:  Price adjustment to match a competitor.
Price has a “C” on it:  Look for the C in the lower right-hand corner.  That means it is on clearance and no longer stocked.

Believe it or not, you can negotiate the price at Best Buy.  Here are a few ways to do do this:

  • Try using cash.  Retailers have to pay credit card fees, so if you offer to pay with cold hard cash, you might be able to save as much a 5% on your purchase.
  • Shop the last day or two of the month.  Stores have sales goals they are trying to meet, so they are more willing to reduce prices to reach them.
  • Bundle.  Offer to buy two items, such as a computer and printer or HDTV and Blu-ray player together.  Ask for a discount of 20% and go from there.  You may be able to save 10% or more.

Best Mac 2018: the best Macs to buy this year

WWDC 2018 may have came and went without even a tease of new hardware, but the best Macs in 2018 still have a lot to offer. When you’re thinking about picking up one of the best Macs, keep in mind that performance, specs and design are far more important in the way they interact with macOS than each of them separately. That’s why it doesn’t make much sense to pit the best Macs and Windows 10 PCs against each other. And, thanks to the fact they’re all using macOS High Sierra – soon to be macOS 10.14 Mojave – we can stand behind our benchmarks confidently.

In 2018, the best Macs are incredibly varied. We may not know what the future holds for Apple, but there are plenty of great Macs that are worth your hard-earned money. You’ve got MacBook Pros with OLED Touch Bars where the function keys used to be – we may even get a full OLED keyboard in the future. Then you have something like the iMac Pro, which has become even more powerful with an up to 18-core Intel Xeon processor. So, how should you pick the best Mac for you?

Well, you’ll be glad to know that we’ve come up with an ordered list that includes the most up-to-date MacBooks, iMacs and Mac minis that you can buy in 2018. The only Macs you won’t find on this list are the ones we’ve yet to have the chance to review, or those that frankly didn’t make the cut following their consideration. Without further ado: on your mark, get set, let’s take a look at the best Mac desktops and laptops you can spend your money on today.

1. 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (2017)

More of the same in the best way

CPU: Dual-core Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 – 650 | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 13.3-inch, (2,560 x 1,600) IPS | Storage: 256GB – 1TB PCIe 3.0 SSD | Dimensions (H x W x D): 30.41 x 21.24 x 1.49cm

While it doesn’t do anything necessarily groundbreaking, the 2017 MacBook Pro takes the 2016 redesign and beefs it up with more powerful internals, while keeping the same general build. It still has the controversial Touch Bar and Butterfly Switched keyboard, but at least Apple is fixing faulty keyboards for free now. And, flaws aside, the MacBook Pro is still a gorgeous laptop, even if it has limited port selection.

27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display - Best Mac 2016

2. 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina display (2015)

Apple’s biggest iMac puts everything on display

CPU: Quad-core Intel Core i5 – Core i7 | Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M380 – R9 M395 (2GB) | RAM: 8GB – 32GB | Screen: 27-inch Retina 5K (5,120 x 2,880) IPS | Storage: 25GB – 1TB PCIe Flash; 2TB – 3TB Fusion Drive | Dimensions (H x W x D): 51.6cm x 65cm x 20.3cm

If you want the big screen of an iMac with the precision of a Retina display then there’s only one iMac for you: the iMac with 5K Retina display. It comes with a choice between two Intel Core i5 chips as well as 1TB of HDD or Fusion Drive storage and it’s so pretty we want to marry it. For designers and video creators looking to make the move to pixel-heavy content, the 5K iMac pairs an illustrious display with a heaping deal of screen real estate to boot. It may not have the expandability of a Mac Pro, but at least you don’t have to worry about buying a monitor.

21.5-inch iMac with 4K Retina display - Best Mac 2016

3. 21.5-inch iMac (2017)

Modest strides in an economical package

CPU: Dual-core Intel Core i5 – quad-core i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 – AMD Radeon Pro 560 (4GB) | RAM: 8GB – 32GB | Screen: 21.5-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080; sRGB) – 4K UHD (4,096 x 2,304; P3 wide color) Retina IPS display | Storage: 1TB HDD – 1TB Fusion Drive SSD | Dimensions (H x W x D): 20.8 x 6.9 x 17.7 inches (52.8 x 17.5 x 45cm; W x D x H)

You know you’re getting an unusually good value from an Apple product when, even at the entry-level, you can expect high performance, lots of storage and more ports than you know what to do with. The latest in Apple’s all-in-one desktop lineup, that’s the 2017, 21.5-inch iMac in a nutshell. There’s still no touchscreen, but at a fraction of the cost of Microsoft’s Surface Studio, you might be thankful that there isn’t. Instead, you’re getting a 7th-generation Intel processor and your choice of an IPS display carefully wrapped in an all-metal chassis.

best mac

4. 12-inch MacBook (2016)

Small, but perfectly formed

CPU: Dual-core Intel Core m3 – Core m7 | Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 515 | RAM: 8GB | Screen: 12-inch Retina (2,304 x 1,440) IPS | Storage: 256GB – 512GB PCIe Flash | Dimensions (W x D x H): 28.05cm x 19.65cm x 1.31cm

Apple’s 2015 MacBook refresh wasn’t for everyone and, despite being rosier and “goldier” than ever, that contention didn’t change in 2016. Most notably, Apple’s replacement of our favorite ports with the brand-new USB-C remains controversial. There’s also the keyboard, wherein Apple has re-engineered every key to be thinner and far less springy to the touch. Even though its Intel Core M processor has nowhere near the power of the Pro or even the Air, the laptop is more than capable of running iMovie, Photos, and even Photoshop with ease.

15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina

5. 15-inch MacBook Pro (2016)

Still the most capable MacBook there is

CPU: Quad-core Intel Core i7 | Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 530; AMD Radeon Pro 450 – 455 | RAM: 16GB | Screen: 15.4-inch Retina (2,880 x 1,800) IPS | Storage: 256GB – 2TB PCIe Flash | Dimensions (H x W x D): 1.49cm x 30.41cm x 21.24cm

After some much-needed patience, we finally have the MacBook Pro overhaul we deserve. Complete with a thinner, lighter design, a Space Gray color option and an OLED Touch Bar in lieu of the function keys, this MacBook Pro introduces the big changes we’ve been waiting for. Although you may be turned off by the lack of conventional ports, there’s a lot to love about the 15-inch MacBook Pro, including lots of RAM, fast storage and a massive trackpad. Sure, you’ll be shelling out an extra wad of cash, but it’s the best MacBook Pro money can buy.

13-inch MacBook Air - Best Mac 2016

6. 13-inch MacBook Air (2015)

The Ultrabook before Ultrabooks

CPU: Dual-core Intel Core i5 – Core i7 | Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000 | RAM: 8GB | Screen: 13.3-inch HD (1,440 x 900) | Storage: 128GB – 512GB PCIe Flash | Dimensions (W x D x H): 19.7cm x 19.7cm x 3.6cm

The MacBook Air is in an interesting place. While it’s still one of the most popular and well-known laptops around, the iPad Pro and 12-inch MacBook have stolen much of its thunder. That is, unless you need the legacy USB 3, Thunderbolt 2 and SDXC card connectivity. Even without a Retina display or Force Touch trackpad, the 13-inch Macbook Air is still a great little machine, even if the 8GB of RAM and base 128GB of storage leave a lot to be desired. Plus, it still has the beloved MagSafe 2 charger onboard, as well as fantastic battery life.

Mac mini - Best Mac 2016

7. Mac mini (2014)

Apple’s most affordable Mac

CPU: Dual-core Intel Core i5 – Core i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics | RAM: 4GB – 16GB | Storage: 500GB HDD; 256GB – 1TB PCIe Flash; 1TB – 2TB Fusion Drive | Dimensions (W x D x H): 19.7cm x 19.7cm x 3.6cm

While we desperately wait for Apple to announce the Mac Mini 2018, the 2014 Mac Mini is still Apple’s cheapest computer by a long shot. Luckily the Intel processor found within allows it to be used for heavier tasks and Apple has brought the low-end model up to a decent spec. Available in three different variants – from a $499 (£399, AU$699) model with a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM to a $999 (£949, AU$1,499) version with a 2.8GHz CPU and 8GB of memory – Apple’s smallest Mac is still competent. We just wish we could get one with more modern hardware.
